A discovery hub to demystify tech for all

This initiative is under development and subject to funding. Get in touch if you’d like to know more.

What

A hub where people can experience and develop skills around virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), blockchain, robotics, coding and examples of other emerging technologies including in agriculture.

Why

Centralised investment in a single site, accessible to all regional schools (and the public) makes sense.

This reduces the need for schools to make large financial investments and maintain sites and infrastructure of differing quality and standards. School infrastructure is typically only accessible during certain hours and restricted to students.

Context

There is little evidence of regional schools investing heavily in technology. One secondary school has two VR headsets in the library to share between all the students of any given class. As challenging as this would be for a teacher to engage an entire class with only two headsets, some schools wouldn’t even have a VR headset.

It is also a challenge for teachers to develop and maintain know-how to get the most out of emerging technologies.

Outcomes

  • exposes community to emerging technology and unlocks innovative thinking towards entrepreneurship and tech careers
