Y-COMMERCE (YOUNG COMMERCE)

Connecting digital natives with small business

This program is currently under development. Get in touch if you’d like to know more.

What

Young Commerce - A service connecting young “digital natives” with time poor, digitally ill-equipped local businesses (and community groups / sporting clubs) to drive digital transformation through the provision of digital business and marketing services.

How

  1. Businesses who need help to grow online can approach Mallee Rising and receive a “digital health check” and discuss an online strategy.

  2. Mallee Rising will develop young people with the skills to provide digital support to businesses.

  3. Businesses will be paired with an appropriate young person or persons based on their needs from the health check and their strategy.

  4. Mallee Rising will oversee the relationship and support where required until it is seamless.

We would expect to see young people managing websites and social media profiles for businesses as well as designing brochures and sending email campaigns.

Why

  • The local retail sector is struggling to compete with online shopping.

  • Small businesses are slow to embrace the opportunities presented by the digital economy.

  • Low levels of digital literacy (“I’m not very techy”) and online entrepreneurship in the Mallee

Outcomes

  • Young people gain “enterprise skills” to help their future employability.

  • Young people gain an income.

  • Young people learn about the importance of small business and buying locally to a local community.

  • The digital transformation of small business in the region is accelerated.

  • Digital business is demystified and becomes more accessible thanks to the involvement of young people.
